The one who spread Cubism in the Himalayas
Gilgit - 1980's. Sir Rahi frequently sat down with the locals and children in the mountain villages, and enjoyed drawing while spending time with them.
It is a well-documented and known fact that Sir Rahi loved nature and mountains. In fact, he moved to Pakistan (West Pakistan) from Bangladesh (East Pakistan) for his love for the mountains, its people, and the northern areas of Pakistan.
He visited the mountains frequently and his most visited place among all places was Murree. It is known in his group of friends and family that whenever someone visited him in Islamabad from anywhere in Pakistan or outside of Pakistan, he would definitely take them to Murree. It was almost as if he owned the entire northern region of Pakistan.
For example, In the 1970's when his brother-in-law got married in Karachi and visited Murree with his wife for their honeymoon, they found a handwritten note from Sir Rahi at the hotel reception that said "Welcome to the Rahi Land". There are many such stories to tell about Sir Rahi's unbreakable bond with Murree, Galiyat, and the northern areas of Pakistan.
Even till the final year of his life when he was unable to paint, he found peace and refuge in the Murree hills. He would try to visit Murree almost daily. With his weakening body due to age but mainly due to malnutrition, mistreatment at home and no access to his own financials, he struggled to get just enough to fuel up the car and use to tell his driver to drive slowly once you enter the Murree hills so he can spend maximum time with the mountains. He even compromised on food and sometimes only eat pieces of bread (roti) with water because he preferred spending the few thousand rupees he got from his wife on fuel so he can reach the mountains. He kept these facts hidden from his friends and family until his son found out after getting to know Sir Rahi's driver.

‘‘Whenever you hear the roaring thunder of the Himalayan clouds and the whispering of the sky-scraping Karakoram pines, it will be my voice. Whenever you smell the fragrance of the red mountain soil emitting with the first raindrops, it will be my smell. Whenever you want to see me, you can Just look at these mountains. I will live forever in these mountains, I will always be loyal to them, for they are my destiny and I am at peace with them...”.
Words of Sir Mansoor Rahi
Book: RAHI - The Cubist Legend of Asia
Published in 2017
When Sir Rahi passed away in May 2024, his son Danish who was the only family member with him in the ICU at the Al-Maroof hospital in F-10 Islamabad during his final days, arranged all the services. Namaz-e-Janaza was held in F-11 Islamabad outside Sir Rahi's house (RAHIS gallery/museum) and then the janaza was taken to Murree at Sir Rahi's own place in Musyari for burial services. Information of the services in Islamabad AND Murree was shared publicly a day before.
The place was not only selected at Sir Rahi's own will but also due to its easy accessibility for his followers, students, friends, and family. And perhaps most importantly due to his supreme love and affection for that place and people.
However, when the janaza reached its destination in Murree it was blocked by a few mobsters who claimed to have purchased that land. They were confronted not only by Danish and people who accompanied him but also by the local villagers who knew Sir Rahi for years. Together they successfully resisted the mobsters and were able to respectfully perform the burial services at Sir Rahi's promised place.
We learned later that the mobsters were sent by Saima Malik and Jawad Moiz Malik to stop the burial services so the land can be sold by them for their financial gains. It was also learned that the main mobster was Jawad Moiz Malik's uncle's nephew. See The Perpetrators page for details on the uncle and his nephew. This is the same group who is trying to forcefully takeover all of Sir Rahi's property, paintings, and assets led by Jawad Moiz and Saima. They were also invited by Saima Malik to the Islamabad Art Gallery event that was held in Sir Rahi's memory and turned into a public fiasco by the mother-daughter duo led by Hajra.
–– Jawad Moiz Malik, Saima Malik, and Hajra Mansoor are currently using all of their sources to dislodge Sir Rahi's grave, and clear the land for sale. Their intention is to dig out Sir Rahi's remains and relocate them elsewhere. This horrific act can be verified by the application submitted at the DC Office/MIT Murree and the related courts. The reason provided by them is that it is difficult for Hajra to visit the site frequently, so she would like it to be in Islamabad. However, Hajra has moved to America herself.
This has caused a growing concern among the people of the area, and the artist communities as it is unthinkable for a wife and daughter to disrespect their own husband and father only for financial gains. The concern is also growing in the religious communities who have issued two Fatwas against such horrific intentions.
Proof of Possession and Relationship
Sir Rahi's final resting place is located in the beautiful hills of Murree in Musyari. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains that Sir Rahi loved and visited frequently. The place is easily accessible by road.
Sir Rahi and his son Danish visited all of their properties together each time when Danish visited Pakistan.
The video on the left is approx 1-year before Sir Rahi passed away (2023). It was shot by Danish Rahi during one of the visits to their Murree location with his father. Sir Rahi and Danish both enjoyed visiting the place and meeting with the locals there.
Sir Rahi can be seen with his granddaughter standing next to their car parked on the Murree Expressway near the property that would later become Sir Rahi's final resting place.
Fake Story by Saima Malik about the burial services
This images debunk yet another lie and fake news from Saima Malik that the tadfeen (burial) was done in an extremely disrespectful way by Danish, who left the grave open and ran away. However, no photograph or evidence was provided to prove her claim. Since she herself was not present during any of Sir Rahi's final services that took place in Islamabad AND Murree, how is it possible that the person who told her the story was on location but was somehow unable to collect any evidence?
We have decided not to mention any details of her horrific story to avoid any disrespect to Sir Rahi but her fake story is available in media coverages.
This photograph (on left) is particularly important because it was taken immediately after the burial services that took place on the eve of 13th of May 2024 with extreme respect and in guidance of the local Imam Masjid, elders, friends, family members, including artists. The fresh rose petals were spread across the grave after proper tadfeen and due-e-maghfarat. The time consuming process of making a proper grave was professionally completed a day before. Fateha is practiced daily at Sir Rahi's grave.
This video is from the one or two days after the burial services on the May 13th 2024.
Having graves on peoples own land next to their houses is a common practice in the area. The graves outside the neighbors house are visible in this video.
The servant quarter is visible in the video that was occupied by Shahzeb and his family who was Danish and Sir Rahi's driver. He was very close to Sir Rahi.
In this video the board with Sir Rahi's name claiming the ownership of the plot is also visible (a close-up image of that board is below). This board was later destroyed by Saima and Jawad Malik when they forcefully tried to take possession of the property in violation of the court stay order and engaged in altercation and assault with locals who were trying to stop them.
The board with Sir Rahi's name clearly showing him as the owner was installed on the plot for a long time. It was installed by Sir Rahi himself and was present at the time of the burial. It was later destroyed by Saima and Jawad Malik. This board is also visible in the video above that was shot a day after the burial.
The grave was later updated with marble and granite. Danish lawfully claims ownership of the area occupied by the grave based on the legal ownership of the land purchased from the local owners. This is separate from the inheritance of the land area that was illegally transfered to Saima Malik.
This entire area is close to 10 canals owned by multiple parties that includes Danish along with several locals. It is not divided by the owners. This type of a status is common in that region.
This image shows the day when Sir Rahi's grave was updated with marble and granite. Danish, along with locals, relatives, and friends visit the site to pay respects and pray for Sir Rahi.
Beautiful children, village elders, locals, friends, and family visit the national hero's grave for dua and to pay their respects. Local madrassa children and religious leaders also stop by for prayers and safeguard the grave site.
Fatwa from Murree
Mufti Murree strictly prohibit any attempt or act to disrespect Sir Rahi's grave
Fatwa from Islamabad
Religious leaders in Islamabad strictly prohibit any attempt or act to disrespect Sir Rahi's grave
Attempt to Frivolously Transfer the Murree Property
Part of this property was frivolously transferred to Saima Malik by forcing Sir Rahi to sign the transfer document. This document is not shows the mala fide intentions to gain control of the property but it is also a key evidence about what Sir Rahi was going through, and how he was treated.
The below image clearly shows that Sir Rahi did NOT sign the document himself because that is NOT his real signature. Sir Rahi was not able to write Urdu language.
Sir Rahi was forced to provide a thumb impression. Examining the thumb impression it is evident that there was a struggle and Sir Rahi in his old age and while being severely mistreated, weakness, and illness tried NOT to provide that easily either.
The witnesses on this document are: (a) Jawad Moiz Malik's uncle Wahid Shakoor himself, and (b) Wahid Shakoor's own nephew.
September 4th 2024 Attack:
Jawad Moiz group with Saima Malik entered the location and tried to take the possession of the property violating the court stay order to maintain status quo. They broke the locks at the quarters and kicked out Sir Rahi's driver Shah Zeb who was there as a security guard (chowkidar). Jawad Moiz Malik threatened the local elders when they tried to intervene and also got involved in battery and assault. There is a verifiable case pending in Murree court regarding this attack.
As per Dawn News, Jawad Moiz Malik s/o Moiz Malik who is Saima Malik's husband employee of Barings LLC is ordered by the courts to appear.
He is required by the court in an assault and battery in the related case.
February 22nd 2025 Attack:
Saima Malik with the help of Jawad Moiz group continue to attack Sir Rahi's grave and disrespect the beautiful and peaceful final resting place of Sir Rahi, which is not only a clear violation of law but it is also against Islam. Below are the pictures from the latest attack by Saima Malik and Jawad Malik's local proxy.

After fixing the damages
(Eid-al-Fitr March 30th 2025)
Due to the climate and hilly terrain, flooding and damage due to rain water is common in the area. However, it is maintainable with proper measures to control water flow.
Since the possession has been with Danish and his father since day one, Danish assumes maintenance as well. In order to safeguard the grave a slab was added around the grave. This was to prevent the grave from getting damaged in case of flooding.
Saima and Jawad Malik sent miscreants to uproot the slab which caused further damage to the grave and obvious disrespect.
Due to the constant attacks and threats from the Jawad Malik group it is difficult to maintain the site.
We request the Army Chief of Pakistan, the President of Pakistan, and the Prime Miniter of Pakistan to help us save a national hero's grave and let him rest in peace at the place that he loved, purchased, and legally owned.
